The Achilles tendon is a band of tissue that runs down the back of your lower leg and connects your calf muscles to your heel bone (Calcaneus).
Achilles tendonitis is an inflammation of this tendon, and Achilles Tendonosis is the degeneration of the tendon. Achilles Tendonitis often occurs in athletes as a repetitive strain injury and in children who are having large growth spurts. The problem can also be caused by flat feet, over pronation, or incorrect footwear.
It can also be confused with conditions such as Retro Calcaneal Bursitis which can feel very similar to the person suffering from it. Treatment can consist of a variety of things such as massage, dry needling, exercises changing footwear and orthotics depending on the duration size of the injury.
